Wondering if anyone can offer any advice to a friend who's having problems with his car. 59 reg Focus 1.6 TDCI (old shape) circa 50,000 miles. Engine management lamp came on one evening last week.
I had read about the PCM update somewhere - there was also talk about it improving fuel consumption. I think it may well be worth a shot if things don't improve. Interestingly, if I put the car in neutral and rev it at around the 1500rpm range, it runs perfectly, no judder, no fluctuating revs, no rough running at all.

Except for one code, P042f - EGR valve stuck closed. I cleaned the EGR and inlet manifold. But even after cleaning (and clearing DTCs) the EGR flags up the same fault code. Van occasionally feels very low on power at low revs, to the extent that it will barely accelerate in 1st gear, until revs are up to close to 2k.

8027 posts · Joined 2007. #4 · Apr 30, 2009. The PCV valve does cause the "fluttering" or "surging" if you will. Mine's bad, it makes my car lose alot of power occasionally going down the road. I can feel it "surging" down the road sometimes.
The MIL light recently came on my 2008 Ford Focus 2.0 tdci. I used a ELM 327 OBDII interface (£10 from ebay) and app for the iPhone to read the fault codes which came back as "P2263 Turbocharger/Super Charge Boost System Performance" and a couple of others (see attached photo below) .
